Yeah, I saw some Sonatas in there that had DOHC motors in them. I guess I will check those out. So that is the head I need? I also found a couple of 3000GT V6 DOHC motors in there to. Is there anything off those motors that I can use as upgrades, other than the MAF? Thanks.

And is a 1994 Sonata the only year to get the 4G67 head with the big ports/small combustion chamber? Thanks.

Possibly.

Heh, confusion abounds on this issue it seems. It is the Elantras that have the "4G67" head. The Sonatas are a 2.0L and therefore we can only assume that they have the big-port, big-combustion chamber head.

Sorry coming in late here as I need some info on selecting a head for future mods.

Building a 6 bolt 4g63; seems most 1g 4g63 heads are the same save for the turbo/NA camshafts. (Most of the 1gen DSM heads I find at the wreckers have are missing cam caps. :()

What about 2gen 4g63? I spotted a 98 sonata, can I use it's head on a 6 bolt motor?

[Edit] I already have the cams from a 90 AWD.

More info I found here. Seems like there is some machine work need on the older 97-99 heads as the bolts, and the holes on the head, are 1 mm too small. Anyone played with the 2g heads on a 6 bolt block before?

I'm pretty sure that the '98 2.0L Sonata would be using the Hyundai Beta motor so that is a no go - completely different motor to the 4G63. Hyundai started using their own engine designs from around 1994 onwards.

However the new new Hyundais are using the joint developed power plants between Mitsubishi/Chrysler/Hyundai so I guess they have come full circle (even though pretty much all manufacturers are doing this these days).

you can also use the DOHC 1.8L elantra heads. They have sligtly higher compression ratio but have the big ports. im pretty sure the 1.6L elantras have too high compression in the chambers and smaller ports.

Does anyone know what year Elantra has the 4G67 head (WITH THE BIG PORTS, SMALL COMBUSTION CHAMBER)?

Thats and excellent post interms of casting marks and their meaning and what came with the 1.6/1.8/2.0 4g6x engines. The only thing that is missing is in which cars those engine came in? I've never seen a DOHC 1.8 in any mitsubishi - they must have came in the elantras?

They did come in the Elantras. I have seen many of them in local junkyards, I just wasn't sure what the head was when I saw them. Now I do! :D

I went to the junkyard today and looked at the 1.6L heads. They do indeed have the Big ports like a 1G 4g63 head and the 43cc (smaller) combustion chambers. I bought a 1.6L head and am putting it on my 4g63t (1990 talon) tomorrow. Ill post how it goes. I will be running 94 octane and the stock 1G turbo stuff.

93 TSIColt, what car (and what year) did you pull that 1.6 head from?
