okay, the expo hubs probably won't be going on my car.

1) camber is off. That's easy enough to fix. Slot the knuckle 2mm and slot the strut 2mm.

2) the tie-rod end hole is 15 mm closer to the steering rack. This isn't a problem and could be fix by screwing the tie-rod ends in farther.

3) the tie-rod end hole is ~10mm farther away from the axle. Meaning that the tie-rods will be angled back, which is going to be placing a forward force on the rods when turning and will screw with the turning ratio.

Oh well. :(

There are kits here in Australia for converting the brakes to twin-pot 330mm brakes. This Lancer is fitted with them. They are the same as the ones I have on my Excel (same hubs).

It doesn't get rid of the problem of captive rotors however.

Here is what Stewart said on the topic:

......

a) use 93-96 Colt / Mirage (4x100mm pattern) knuckes, refitted with 4x4.50"
Galant / Vista 4WD hubs. This provides the base for bigger rotors
(250-275mmx24mm ventilated) and the caliper bracket mounts are the same. Has
74x40mm bearings.
b) use 88-92 Vista 4WD wagon knuckles, complete. The 2WD wagon had the same
knuckle style as your car, but the 4WD was different, with 266mm disks. Has
80x40mm bearings.
c) use 93-96 Expo wagon (2WD or AWD are the same) knuckles. Also has the
bigger 80x40mm bearings and 250x24mm disks. This is probably the best
solution, as the tierod end is on top of the steering arm, like on your car
(as I recall). This is what I wll soon have in my project car, but with the
5x4.50" Talon hubs fitted.
...
Besides the slight slotting of some mounting points, is any other type of fabrication involved with any of these swaps? and has anyone successfully done any of the swaps listed above? I remember reading on this site that he had to make a couple of adapters to get his 5lugs on his 3G. Maybe not the same case as in our cars.

All it says is that they use a system from MBR.

I'm emailing back and forth with David at RPW about this.

Well I wont give my Autospeed login detail but here is a picture from later on in the article:

http://us1.webpublications.com.au/stati ... 21_8mg.jpg

Only certain 16" rims have enough clearance for these brakes. I went with 17s.

In that kit the rotors are made by DBA and the callipers by PBR which are both OEM manufacturers here in Australia. The only part custom made is the adapter bracket.

As far as braking effectiveness goes they have excellent feel and are very progressive and at 330mm Im not likely to challenge them much with the ~1000kg(2200lbs) weight of my Excel.

I have lots of pics of when I first got the brakes new. Like a picture that shows the brake rotor completely obscuring the original 13" rims that were fitted on my car. I will dig them up from home tonight and post them up - they are just what you want I think.

Oh my... large brakes.

Yummy

I would love those for auto-x. Of course how much are they... if it costs 2k for brakes (or more) then I could just sell louie, go pick up a used miata and smack a supercharger on it or something.

mmmmm, convertable

Any chance these would work? http://www.sharkracing.com/sus/hyundai/bigbrakekit.html

Notice this comment about mid-page
"(captive rotor kit also includes non-captive hubs and bearings) "

I've already emailed them and asked about these, so hopefully they'll be able to provide some info.

I think we may have a winner here. I don't know if they'll have the answer for us. Someone may have to take one for the team and try them. Any volunteers? :D

Good call jmauld. I completely forget about Hyundai aftermarket sometimes - not much there for me. The Grandeur XG (hence the "XG" callipers) conversion would work. The rotor diameter on those is only 274mm dont let the pic of 320mm rotors fool you so im not sure if that's much of an upgrade for you although every bit helps.
