OK I have a complete wiring harness out of a 92' TSI. I need to know which wires are needed and what ones are not. I will be using a simple push button start (no key). The car will have lights and blinkers on a totaly different harness.

One I do not need:
62 Purge control solenoid valve
53 EGR Control Solenoid Valve (90-93 CA only, 94 all)
65 Air conditioner relay
3 Turbo gauge
5 Power steering oil pressure switch
15 EGR temperature sensor (90-93 CA only, 94 all)
7 Air conditioner switch
11 ABS control unit (AWD, ABS only)

Do I need a MPI? Can I just have switches?

Its not a stand alone, it's a 92 TSI wiring harness and E-PROM ECU. I just want to simplify the whole thing.

62- purge solenoid will throw a cel if unplugged, maybe put in a resistor?
53-EGR, just unplug it, or not use it at all... if the ecu was originally from CA, my guess is you'll have to desolder a jumper/resistor in the ecu...?
65- AC relay, in the garbage it goes
3- turbo gauge, see above? maybe?
5- PS switch, it's just a grounding switch, cut it and tape it, then forget about it...
15 - EGR, toss it in the bin, but ecu tweaking may be in order if from CA
7- toss
11 - sounds like a chassis harness part...

this should lead you in the right direction... i hope...

Not really worth it on a factory ECU some of those things piggy back and you could really open up a can of worms.

I don't have any of that shit plugged in on my 93 Colt, and error codes at all from the logger.

don't forget that you can use the boost gauge wire [at least with a tmo chip] to display other info [timing/o2 readings/etc]. you'd of course have to work in a stock dsm boost gauge somewhere, though.

are you asking so that you can eliminate the weight of the extra wires? that car better be pretty f'ing fast. g'luck.

I have all the electrical tape off and starting cutting out unneeded wires. The tape weighs quite a bit. I'm also going to reroute the wiring to clean her up.

Quick question do I need a reed switch? I dont have a speedo. Does the ECU use the signal for something?

You don't have a speedo?

It's built into the gauge cluster
Factory ecu uses it for something with the idle
EMS also uses it to determine speed/speed related things

Nope it will have just a tach and other vital guages.

So the ECU needs a reed signal from somewhere right?

Interesting question. I don't think it "needs" it, I think it just plays some small part and won't be missed.
