OK, this is what we got so far to free some more ponies:

upgrading ignition coil w/a stronger type

installing a 50mm (4G37) throttle body (1)

installing a 50mm (4G37) throttle body (2)

retarding camshaft by 5*

tightening valve lash

Rising compression ration to 10.5:1 by using Excel X1 pistons

upgrading MAF, injectors and ECU by swapping in the 4G37 units

and the standard stuff, like adjusting base ignition timing to 7*, K&N air filter, porting 'n polishing, a nice header,...

This all -except the turbocharging - should give you some realistic 25-30HP. The turbo could give you easily 20-30 HP more.

Did I forget anything?

Camshaft options...

RPW in Australia
http://www.rpw.com.au

Tighe Camshaft in Australia
http://www.tighecams.com.au/

And there was that place in the US that does regrinds....

I'm thinking about doing this:

Change to injection from a scrap Proton, they are EEPROM based and MAP sensor.

Chuck on the biggest TB I can find, with a cold air feed to the front grill.

Don't need the catalyst as I am tested for emissions for the age of car, so I can keep my 4-2-1 mandrel bent extractors and get a 2" exhaust made.

See if I could get a stronger Coil running on a modified dissy cap. I think it's important to state that the original igntion amplifier designed for the small coil on the 12valves engines might die with the extra current drawn from a large coil. You could remove it all and use an aftermarket ignition amplifier.

At the same time as changing inlet manifolds I will stiffen the rear engine mount. My front stiffened is great, just the rear one is falling apart now!

I had a thought, when you retard the camshaft, isn't the injector injecting at the wrong valve opening time? Because you have to advance the dissy to compensate for the igntion timing.....
Would it be possible to adjust the cam angle sensor inside the dissy? I assume the injectors are fired from this?

I thought about RPW, too. But I didn't consider puting them in here because it's not a cheap-@ss mod. :D OTOH I bet there are people who want to spend money on better camshafts, and I don't see anything wrong with that.

Which Proton models have a MAP system? Maybe they are another possible upgrade. And w/ an EEPROM, remapping to different injectors is just a matter of minutes.

I dunno if a 60mm or better/worse a 65mm TB is a good idea on a 4G15. OTOH there are Suzuki Swift GTs running around perfectly w/ 60mm Nissan TBs, so why shouldn't we?

I thought about that ign amp, too. I think we should find out how much power it can safely generate. Does anybody know what transistor they use in there?

Yeas, the CAS is inside the dissy. However, timing is adjusted by turning the dissy, so you don't have to adjust anything there. The injetors are fired from this signal, but they are fired earlier then the actual ignition timing event. Even if some gas may rest on the valves, it will get sucked into the combustion chamber later on.
You'll have to advance ignition timing by the amount you retarded valve events.

Well, the one I got parts off was a '93 Proton, the first sort to have injection. I'm quite sure that all the 1.5 Protons from late 92 to the present date have the same engine, 12valve and injection with a MAP sensor. I can't say if they all had EEPROM though.

I thought that with MAP sensor, it wouldn't matter so much about TB size. Maybe thats all wrong :) With an EEPROM it can be reprogrammed though, so shouldn't be a problem.

I can get ignition amp kits that are heavy duty for about 20 dollars/euros. Just solder it all together.

I remember the later 4G15 (post '93 or so) are all MAP based... 8)
And you're right, I think. A MAP based ECU wouldn't have as many problems w/ a bigger TB as a MAF based - or is it the other way around?

What do these ign amp kits consist of? I though about making one of a 2N3055 transistor (3 or so $$/€€), three or so high power resistors (1 buck ea.), a 1N400x diode (0.50 bux for 10 or so) and a 0.2MF capacitor (0.20 bux?) .

Yeah, they have those parts you listed and a coupleof Zener diodes, resistors and a smaller transistor. I have the diagram, but I'd just buy myself the kit.

Would you be able/so nice and scan in the diagram? I'm too lazy to make one myself.

Hi!

R u guys talking about 4G15 12v or 8v?

I have 8v in 1990 CA Lancer in Oz.

I want to MILDLY mod but am told that the ECU and "stepper motor" might not handle it?? I also have a 4spd auto.

Is there a bolt on larger TB for the 8v motor (without having to do the ECU etc..)?

Will any of the 12v stuff go on the 8v motor or is it all different? I notice that the 12v dizzy hole is on the other end of the cam.

Any info on modding 8v would be appreciated.
