'92 Auto Colt 1.5L 3 Speed.

Drives like a top, but from 80km-90km it pulses. maybe 1 second intervals- Accelerating to 100km+ fixes the problem.

From what I've read I'm putting bets on the ECU- Would anyone chime in?

Thanks :)
Ian

I had wicked trans flaring issues in the 3 speed 1991 Colt 1.5L that I used to own. I got it that way, and sold it that way. A fluid change, valve body swap by next owner helped it but I don't think it ever really cured it long term. It came back. Wonder if you can get a 4 speed to swap in!
This would be a very interesting thread if that's the case. :twisted:

Help :prayer:

I just got back after 3 months of work-

The Colt ('92 Auto) ran perfect when I parked it, now- it it stalls when slowing to stop. Almost how manual cars react while in gear slowing to a stop.
The Car starts and runs fine in Park and Neutral. Stalls in Reverse and Drive- You can power through it, but it bogs real bad. Drives fine on the highway.

I replaced the ECU with a known working one, and reset by disconnecting the negative terminal for 10 minutes.

Why-o-why is this happening?

If you have a torque converter that is locked up, then it will cause this issue because the trans is held back from slipping as it is supposed to do by design. Torque converter only locks up under normal highway load to improve fuel economy and reduce heat transmission through the converter due to the viscous coupling action that occurs by nature of the fluid getting sheared inside the converter to create stall and move the trans input shaft and spin those gear clusters.

Those manuals I sent to you should have a complete diag tree for problems with drive/no drive related to the transmission. Lots of colorful fluid diagrams also, but stick with the written systems they have for approaching certain conditions and their related speeds or lack thereof.

An overnight physical issue like this sounds suspect short of corrosion on a connector due to our illustrious use of salt on the local roads during the snowy months.

You had mentioned a valve body swap about the bogging issue- It had always kind of had harder shifts from P to R and D.

Looking at the diagrams, I'm very happy to have my Jeep almost finished.

The manuals suggest priority on the Damper clutch solenoid valve.

LilEvos site suggests;
Overhaul the valve body, or;
Replace the Damper clutch control solenoid valve.

edit: Other online sources suggest torque converter replacement.

Have you tried shifting into neutral when coming to a stop and seeing if that keeps it from stalling? This will tell us if it's an engine issue or trans issue.

When I was able to drive it, thats how I stopped- by shifting it into neutral.

Now, I can't even get into gear without stalling.

Sounds like the 94 summit wagon I purchased a few years ago. It was doing the same thing. I fixed it by doing a 5 speed swap :lol: .

On a positive note I have a 3 speed auto trans here with 53k on it if you need any parts. The car broke a rod because it was ran low on oil so the trans should be fine.
