 Post subject: 8v to 12v swap

how easy is it to swap a 12v head from a 8v head
and would there be a problem with the distrbutor or no because of the location

It is a good hassle to swap. Doable in a day if you have all the parts ready. Having the 12v engine harness to put on the car would make things much easier. I dont remember what all is involved but the distributor is the main difference. I would look into differences in the water system and fuel injector placement also.

Is there a reason to do this swap? The 12v engine only puts out a few more horses that you will barely notice.

Either way like uweenukr said, it would be much easier if you had a 12v harness to put in, this will save you a ton of hardwiring for the distributor and the throttle body.

If it is a repair type swap you are trying to do I could understand. But it is really not worth doing for an extra 3-5hp. Besides there is a Hyundai head from the early 90s that had a HUGE cam in it. Swap that head on and youll get that hp difference without all the hassle!

I put the Hyundai head on my 1.5L before I sold it and it picked up a few tenths that way.

what is the difference between the mitsu and hyundai head
reason why i want to do the swap is cause the cams im finding go for the 12v
and i want power for a autocross setup and with less hassle than to do a engine swap out because of time contraints less tim in shop more time on track till after i come home off deployment

The Hyundai head is a direct bolt on. I don't remember which car it was but if your set on that being your option I can go look it up again.

What other mods have you done? Have you looked into the 1.8L parts (MAF, injectors, throttle body, ECU)

The head swap MIGHT net you 5hp. the 1.8L parts MIGHT net you another 5hp.
