I am running the 4g15 ECU because it lets me turn 7000 rpm instead of the 4g37 ECU that will only turn 6750 with all the other related 4g37 parts . I also have the timing belt backed up a tooth and slotted the distributor to get back to 7 degrees timing . The car starts poorly but seems to work well when its warmed up . I only care about making top end power (above 5000 rpm ) What can i do to improve on this set up ? Bore the throttle body ? Try the larger Nissan 55mm throttle body ? Hack the MAF ? Go to a better , remote coil like the Saab 900 ?

There are actually 4g15 eproms. You could check the dsm ecu yahoo group for the 4g37 rom and find someone on there that can edit the rev limiter higher and burn you a chip. I don't think it's ever been done before just because it's a lot of effort for a 4g15.

I will look into that and see where it leads .

Running the 4g15 ECU with my set up the car would be running rich or lean ?

As long as you're running the maf and injectors at the same time, you should be fine.

Short of the EPROM where can i look to increase power in the 5000 - 7000 rpm range ?

Porting the head/intake exhaust manifold. Could see about bigger replacement valves, usually mitsus will go up +1mm.

Thanks mechacode thats where i was thinking of going since i have aquired a couple of good heads . Any ideas on what larger valves would work in the 12 V heads ?

Just look anywhere they offer replacement valves and tell them you need oversized because your machinist nicked your valve seat. They should be able to come up with the +1mm.

Just to let everyone know how this set up worked , we killed the 4g15 last saturday night at the track . The driver decided to ignore the temp guage reading of 250 + degrees for several laps and melted the engine . Inside the head the aluminum around the plugs was melted to the threads of the spark plugs and cylinders 2 and 3 were scored horribly where it began to sieze up .

This was 100 % driver stupidity and not the engines fault even if it may have been averted by running a larger rad . No engine is going to take that kind of temp while running it to redline lap after lap . I will say it was running very strong and just a tick slower then the Honduh 1600 16 valve ZC engines before it fried . This was probaly our best set up for top end power 5000 -7000 rpm but i would not recomend it for street use since it ran like crap when it was cold and the top end increase seemed to be at the expense of low end power .

As i stated in another post we are going to go to either a 4g63 or 4g64 and see how much abuse they will take before they grenade .

Hell for $400 USD for a JDM 4G64 why the hell not? It will produce MUCH torque and be easier to mod than the 4G15. I think you'll be pleased when you're all done with it. You better keep us updated. I'm interested to see how it runs and drives with that motor.

There are SOHC 4g63's too.

^^ What he said. Both 8V and 16V SOHC variants.

i fell on this post and it sparked my intrest, for one reason. i have a 86 with the 4g32t, well i am putting the 37 intake manny on it for a mpi swap. my biggest problem to date is, a ecu, its turbo so i cant use the 37 ecu, however an eprom ag15 ecu, well if it works on his set up with the 37 maf, will it work with the 32's dizzy, or even the 37's dizzy. its a shot in the dark but thought id ask. thanks

I have no backgrond in turbos but doubt this is viable for you . I think we would have gone faster with the 4g37 ECU only spinning 6750 rpm if we had of been set up for it . The engine did seem to run on the lean side with this set up at high rpms .

* I think we also were running too high of an octane fuel for a N/A engine with 9 to 1 compression .

Thanks nascarcolt, I know it was a shot in the dark. I am just trying to find a cheap ecu that can be programed. Any way sorry for the highjack, and good luck with your projects.
