I had a battery installed in my 90 Colt 1.5 liter 2 days ago. The check engine light came on and then it failed to start. I checked the fault codes with my digital volt meter and obtained a solid 12V and code 15. I think that means dead ECU and TPS if I recall correctly. I checked 2 local junyards and all the ECU were gone. Are there other Mitsu model ECU that will work? Am I doing something wrong checking for the codes? Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Tonight I am going to check with a analog volt meter as someone at work suggested.

John, welcome to the site.

Engine code 15 is a a "bad idle speed control"

Here's more. http://www.4g61t.com/bridge/phpBB203/vi ... .php?t=306

I think when the ECU fails, you don't actually get any messages out. But I guess that depends on how it fails.

Constant 12V output is the sign for a dead ECU. If the ECU is dead - it cant output any codes...

Just a late follow up. I replaced the ECU and it runs perfectly. It was spitting out nonsense -all sorts of different codes, didn't make a lot of sense. I guess in summary it can be a solid 12V or codes that dopn't make alot of sense. I also found a web site: http://www.carelect.demon.co.uk/mitind.html that describes similar symptoms.
