i have a carbed 1.5 Plymouth Colt in Calgary and the engine is very strong for its age. I have to replace teh timing belt, tensioner and cam shaft seal but thats not too bad. I wondered if its possible to convert the engine over to efi and if so what would i be looking for in a scrap yard to salvage for conversion. Thanks Dan B |

You'll need the EFI fuel tank, lines, intake manifold, wiring loom (this is the fun part), ECU, MAF and whatnot. It's definately not easy. I recommend keeping it carbed and give it a tune up every now and then. |

Thanks for the quick reply what are my options then with the carbed version for tuning, i love the engine and the 4spd. I love making the tires squeel. Just want a little more grunt. I've done the usual stuff like plugs, cap and rotor, even modded my air intake a little. I also want to replace the seats (previous owner had a rabid dog) anyone know of anything a little more sporty that has easy fitment. Also my brakes will need some work eventually so could i upgrade them with something off another car? Also what other wheels can go on this car, i have 13 ' steels right now but wondered what guys were running for wheels Eventually i will be looking at an exhaust but the prevous owner installed a new oem one so it has life yet Thanks guys |

Thanks for filling that in. Before I switched to EFI on my X1 Excel I was using a 32/36 DGV Weber on the stock manifold using an adapter plate that I had made. That was backed up with a sports filter and 2" exhaust and even if it wasn't terribly fast I got some good laughs scaring the crap out of people at pedestrian crossings with the induction noise. I believe you can still buy new Holley knock offs of the 32/36 Weber (since they are very hard to find). http://www.holley.com/types/Two%20Barrel%20Street.asp You want the 350cfm version for the 4G15. |

Thanks for the info Turns out there is a dealer for holley in my home town!! How did you go on making the adapter plate? |

The adapter plate is pretty easy to make. Just use a piece of flat aluminium bar stock that is about 10-12mm (1/2") thick. A picture however is worth a thousand words: http://www.redlineweber.com/html/Tech/t ... nstall.htm That should give you an idea. Note the recessed allen head bolts used to hold the adapter plate onto the manifold. From that website it seems you can still buy DGV Webers new. So that is also an option. |
