| Post subject: | Advice for doing head gasket? |
Im gonna be doing a head gasket on my 12v this weekend and was wondering if anyone had advice. I have a full top end gasket set and a t belt kit with tensioner, Working on getting a water pump. I also have the FSM. Just looking for any tips or tricks that might make this go smooter... |

I would get the head pressure checked by a machine shop, a valve job, have valve stem seals put in and have the mating surface machined to ensure it seals correctly. |

Make sure the dowel that sticks up out of the block to line up the head with DOESN'T get stuck in the head when you pull it off. It's happenend to me twice now. |

1. Make sure you have manual for engine. 2. Drain coolent I see people pull head off and coolent every where... 3. I wouldnt waste the money taken head to shop, unless it has a few 100,000 km. 4. I would pull them valve springs off tho and do the valve seals you should have them in your Head gasket kit.... 5. Take your time. |
