Here's the story.. I have a KM-201 in questionable condition and a chance to get a KM-206 with 500 miles on a new rebuild. I'd rather use the KM-206 in the swap but i have a few questions and i know someone knows. The tranny is comming out of a car with a G15B and i know that that's the sister to my 1.5 mirage (3G Sedan) So the flywheel should work with my 4G15 right? And question #2. I think the KM-206 uses a cable clutch but i have to use the shifter/cables/pedels from a KM-201. Would their be any problem with this or are they kinda universal. And #3 can anyone point me to any info on the diffrence between a KM-201 and a KM-206? Thanks.

Actually, If it's possible someone post information on all of the Trannies that we can use. It would be nice to put this in the FAQ.

So if you can use the KM-201 that means you could use the awful 3 speed auto from the 4g15 on the 4g63t now would it work or would you run into nasty ECU problems? bad enough you would rather have an eclipse auto tranny/ECU for the swap (my gf refuses to learn stick so if the swap is going to happen I gotta play by her rules..)

KM-210 Uses a hyd clutch

KM-206 Uses a vaccume type clutch? Need more info.. Same gearing as
KM-201 i believe

KM-201 Uses Hyd, Cable clutch.

The problem for me is that the KM-206 uses a vaccume to shift? Here's all the info i found http://www.txchange.com/km162.htm says nothing about the KM-206. If someone has mitchell on demand could they please send me the tranny overhaul guidefor a 89' Hyaundai excell (KM-206)

KM-206 is on the 1.6L NT engines. It's hydraulic. Pre 89 cars (carbed) were vacuum I believe. 1.6L NT = 6 bolt crank/NT flywheel. This is the flywheel needed for people that want to use the 1.5L tranny with the 4G63.

Sooooo. No way to convert it from vaccume? I was going to pick the excell for $100 with 500 miles on a rebuilt M/T (KM-206) with fresh clutch and just use the tranny but if it's not possible i might just make it into a rally car.

Also we need to somehow put together a tranny/flywheel compatibility chart for mitsu engines, I know alot of people this would help.

I did the swap from a km201/f5m21 to a km206/f5m22. It was off a 90 c/m 1.6 nt. I had to use the "control" and "select" levers off the km201 and installed them on the km206 in order for the 1.5l shift cables to reach the levers. I used a 1g nt flywheel and c/m turbo clutch setup. The 1g turbo flywheel is too big to fit the trans housing. If you end up doing this swap, I recomend using a stronger clutch setup. My clutch starts to slip with more than 2 people in the car.

As far as I know on the 89 c/m's these trannies seem to work:

km201, km206, km210, km215...It's also recomended you use the matching starter plates and you might also want to use the trannies w/a hydraulic clutch release. There is also a good chance the shift cables and the levers will not match.

The axles are also a concern when swaping from the km201. The 1.5l axles will not fit the km206, 210, or 215. The amount of splines are the same but the length is too short. The circlip at the end will not go in far enough for the clip to lock in the axles. You'll need c/m-t axles. The c/m-t axles will fit the km206, km210, and the km215.

'89 Excel's are fitted with the KM-162. You can trust me on that. The KM-162 is an air shifted dual range 4-speed and a serious POS. Solid gear links and cable clutch. I was glad to see the end of mine.
