Im leaking oil like a siv from behind the crank pulley. Im pretty sure that it is the oil seal. For you guys that have done this, whats the easiest/quickest way of doing it? thanks |

Get a factory service manual for your car and follow the directions to remove the transmission. Once the tranny is out you'll have to remove either the flywheel (manual) or flex plate (automatic). You might be able to get the old seal out of its carrier without removing the carrier from the back of the block. If so, drive a new seal into place. Use a seal driver so that you don't bend your new seal. If you have to remove the carrier to get the old seal out you'll need to remove a few of the oil pan bolts and may very well bugger up the oil pan gasket - be prepared for that. Change the oil seals where the axle halfshafts plug into the tranny while you have the axles out.Personally, I'd pull the engine and tranny out of the chassis and do the job on a bench (or engine stand). You can change the front seal, oil pump seal, timing belt & tensioner, other belts AND do a very thorough cleaning of the engine bay and the engine itself. |

i ...DID.... regardless, i dont want to pull the engine (drop 2 mounts worst case scenario) ... you see this is my beater, the only thing i want to keep from happening is a huge puddle on my driveway everytime i stop and the money spent on the oil to top it off anybody else? |

You should be able to get to it pretty easy. Pull the driver side wheel and pull the pully and covers. Everything is right there. Thats the beauty of the 4g15, everything is easy to get to! |

I did mine on my 4g15, EASY!! If you don't know what you're getting into, definatly get a manual first. You're going to have to make sure everything is in time when you put it back together, very important. Also, one little tip; put the seal in the freezer, it will shrink and allow you to slide it right in(most of the time), or atleast make it a lot easier. |

did you still need the seal driver to put the new one in using that freezer trick? As far as manual goes, i have acces to one online, however say i want a printed one, which manual do you guys most commonly use? I have a colt 100 fwd, and my local parts guys dont have one in stock. Where did you guys buy yours from, and for what specific car? thanks |
