:( I installed the TPS over the weekend and all seemed ok. Took the car out again today and same problem. Car sputtered once or twice on the way home then completely died. CEL flickered. I also had trouble starting the car. Cranked but didn't start again until after a couple of tries. I finally got it home and checked for codes...nothing. Since I disconnected the battery to install the TPS, they were cleared and ECM didn't catch a code from the problem today. I'm at a loss. I thought I had it solved. Not sure where to turn now. I'm seriously considering trading it in and cutting my losses. Frustrating! Any other ideas?

While I had the distributor replaced recently, I'm wondering if they installed improperly. I don't know much about distributors but will start reading the manual again.

I've thought of the same idea since I first read this post, but I thought everyone else had it nailed. I'm going to go with a dirty gas tank on this one. which could plug either filter or both.

Still searching for the fix...

It dawned on me that I replaced my radiator a few months ago, around the time that I started experiencing these stalling problems noted above. I just used the old coolant temperature sensor. Could this be the issue? Would a failing coolant temp sensor cause the car to stutter and die after 10-15 minutes of around-town driving? I seem to think that the issue is temp related since the problem appears irregularly only and after the car has been driven for awhile.

Anyone else experience a failing temp sensor? What were your symptoms? Computer hasn't thrown a code yet but temp sensors are reasonable $$. I might just replace but wanted to hear what you all think?

Thanks!

my 1.5 had cel all the time and would be a bitch to start and would stall at stops if I didn't keep 1 foot on the gas and 1 on the brake. Replaced the Coolant temp sensor and tadah!!! Runs like a champ. I think the sensor set me back like 12 bucks at NAPA. Worth a shot for that chump change.

gixxermania: I just realized that there are two coolant temp sensors after picking up the part at NAPA and realizing that it wasn't the one that I was familiar with (thought they gave me the wrong part). I'm familiar with the sensor mounted to the bottom of the radiator but learned that that one only controls the fan. The other coolant sensor is mounted somewhere on the block? Is that the one you replaced? Where is it located? Is it easy to get to?

By the way, I am also starting to experience cold start issues now that the weather is getting colder in the morning. Sounds like this sensor really needs to be replaced.

Thanks for any help.

I belive there are two sensors on the thermostat housing. One is a coolant switch and the other is a temp sensor. (I believe this is so) :-?

you have two coolant sensors i believe. 1 for the ecu and the other for the gauge. I remember with my 4g63t, my cooltant temp sensor wasnt plugged in, it would idle and it hardly started. I put in a new snesor and the second crank it fired up...i have to crank the engine a few times cause of my FPR.

ive had the sputter and die with my summit but it was due to loose battery connections also about 5 seconds before that my cel came on. spend any more money on a 1.5 csm and itll be enough to buy another.
