Musta lost my previous topic, but anyhow, I picked up a way overpriced 1987 mirage turbo awhile back. It was a original turbo car swapped iwith a 4g63, and the work was so bad, I decided to pull the entire engine and trans along with the wiring harness.

This is is basically a rebuild thread of the 63 swap cleaned up and done proper without melted wires and oil and spheghetti wiring everywhere.

PIcked the car up for waaaaaay too much, but I really wanted a second gen 87 mirage turb body, so I bought it.

Had a galant vr4 swapped engine, with a chinese 20g, a safc, and some chipped ecu. Everything in the engine bay is coatedwith oil, the car ran like complete shit, throwing codes etc... It has more silicone couplings on the intercooler piping than the govt has conspiracy theories....

Nice lot of random wiring and misc melted wires... typical hack job these days I guess.

After troubleshooting the mess a bit, decided th engine needed t bepuld, and baialy rebuilt, along with a complete rewire with a new wiring harness, and real mitsubishi parts.

First step was to pick up a real mhi evo 3 16g. It should be perfect for a 1800lbs fwd car.

Second step, pull the engine and trans, which is where I currently am.

a bit of progress today, but still no engine out. I forgot to drain some of my oil catch pans, so to avoid a mess, I will go buy new ones tomorrow.

I did find a cool discovery.. Drivers side spring was literally broken. Cut and broken lol.

Aldo I will give a shout out to hf for their 72 bin bolt rack. fruit and banana thing is amazing for working on cars. Everyone should have one.

Don't remember ever seeing this car ??

There was a red one a while back, but he installed some actual drop spring IIRC.

Who did you buy this from? Member here ??

yeah he was...

I'll have to dig up the post
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=36405

he had another post as well. What a fruit and banana moron. and I hope he reads it. I'm probably the only person who would drop 5k on a 87 with the worst running and done swap I have ever seen...

Engine is out, engine bay has it's first wave of cleaning, and now I am concentrating on the engine. I will probably fully tear apart and hot tank the block, paint, and reassemble. Lots of ghettoness. missing intake bolts stripped exhaust manifold bolts, all not original bolts. I cant take it. No 13,, headed bolts will be on this car lol.

What bolts are used to install the turbo to the exhaust manifold? I cannot make out washers, single or proper double OEM.

Not much of an update, but i got around to hot tanking the block and painting it. I need to order sone acl race bearings and a head gasket still before i can go any farther. I'm hoping to have the engine slapped togethe in the next few weeks.

I'm also in themarket for a cyclone intake, amd a set of compomotive turbo wheels, knockoffs or anything similar thats 4x114.3 and 14 or 15 inch

Still not much to update as I have been working on a few other vehicles. I have acl race bearings ordered and am deciing if I should do arp composite, or a mls setup on the engine. I dont plan on pushing too much out of it since I want it to be a twisty road driver, and figure a overload of power will make it a piece of crap to drive.

I vote composite with ARPs for anything under 450whp.

I figure a stock oem gasket with some arp should be plenty. Gonna go that route I think. Now I just need to source the cheapest place to buy both. I've about finished up my mighty max, and this is next on the list to get going.

I checked the head the other day and the valves seem standard, and not oversized like he said

I'm gonna poke around and see if I can find a cheap set of cams and adjustable cam gears used for it while im waiting on parts.
