if i take my ecu out of a 1985 turbo mirage 1.6 sohc and replace it with another do i have to calibrate the new one to my car or is it plug and play i need to know this because i can purchase one from a friend and mine is shot thanks

You should be able to just plug it in no problem. They do not need to be programmed or calibrated to your car.

As Tonus said.

Ecu's have the base programming for everything to work properly. All you have to make sure about is emissions equipment being hooked up for Federal or California. The car will run without a bunch of pieces hooked up because they give no feedback. If the ECU has the same part number that would help immensely in determining that you have the correct part to install, but again many ECU's work for the different years. Do the ECU numbers match from yours to his?

yes they have the same part number i was concerned because my friends at the local mechanic shop that i called said i would have to bring it to them$$$$$$$$$$ to hsve it programed and didnt think so i thought that was for 96 and up ecu cars well thats gonna save me some dough thanks guys i just spent a mint on something that might not even be the problem but i did see some flaws in my ecu when i opened it up i do have a major break in one of the copper channels that i can see and god knows what i didnt see
