As I introduced myself I gave a simple insight of what I was up to. I am turbo charging the 4G37 of a 94 Plymouth Laser. I came here to seek help from all you 4G32 junkies! Very few DSM'ers help out the SOHC guys little alone beileve the 1.6 should of been turbo'd so asking them for info is like this... ](*,)

So what I have done is used the hot side of a 4g32bT turbo with the 3 bolt flange onto the corresponding exhaust mani that fits the head perfectly. And I used a cold side of the 13b DSM turbo so all the factory DSM stuff fit onto the the newly hybrid turbo. I am neededing some info on where the oil feed line and water coolant lines originate and end into. I also noticed on the side of the 4g37 head to the passanger side right behind the exhaust manifold there is a little bolt plugging a hole. Is this used in your applications? And another question what do these motors use for knock detection? Do they have a functional ECU controlled timing adv/ret for knock or a knock detected boost bypass valve? On my Maserati, the knock sensor transfers info to a bypass valve and lowers pressure down to no knock being detected, instead of retarding timing.

Any help on these?

BTW!!!! I almost forgot! On the 0o2 sensor housing there is what looks like a EGR tube, does anyone know where to get something to block this?

Thanks for all and any input in advanced!

:party2:

This picture shows where the oil feed comes from for the turbo:

That threaded hole on your head will probably work for your application.

The water feed and return are located on the large main pipe behind the manifold and on the thermostat housing. The good news for you is that the turbo does not HAVE to have water passing through it. It is certainly better from a durability standpoint but many other enthusiasts use these turbos on other platforms without water and have acceptable results.

When the ECU detects knock it pulls timing by changing when the plugs fire. It does not limit boost.

I need a picture of the hole you want to plug.

So the ECU is not something I could run unless I went with the TBI unit instead.
Yea I would probably rather run the water into the turbo, I'll see if anyone has a water pipe for sale. Thanks, it stinks these are being junked and pulled apart. However I appreciate the fact you guys are trying to preserve them and appreciate them. I don't have a pic now, but the hole is right under the o2 sensor on the housing, has maybe a 3/4 inch pipe to it.

it costs less to buy a turbo dsm then to turbo a non turbo. after you sell yours the difference in time and cost will be gigantic and if you bring up the "i wanna be different" argument, just dont.

Fail. I have done this twice now. First time with a NA 4g63 Laser and again with a NA 4g61 Summit.

You can run custom hoses to use water cooling with the turbo. For instance, you could weld a fitting into your existing main water pipe and tap the thermostat housing to accept another fitting. Just have to get creative.

Are you serious??? It would even be cheaper to get one of your "Holy Grail" 4g32's dropped in it and use my more advance multi port plenum. THAT my friend would be more cost effective. And yes I hear it all the time from DSMtalk, and the reason is I already have alot invested into this car. If I already didn't I would be looking for one. I have already invested in new interior, new paint and new motor. Basically I rebuilt the whole car. Now I am not looking to turbo it for any kind of 10 sec street car. But for fun! Which FUN is the whole reason we are here and involved in the car enthusiast community! :partyman:

Shaun, thanks for the input hpwever replacing the water pipe will be fairly easy once I have the exhaust manifold out of the way. I will post for one in the classifieds. I was thinking of doing the throtle body coolant bypass and running the feed from that to the turbo.

And btw!!! If I am the first one to pull this off, and I will :D it is totally different! Hell, this engine has more in common with the CSM's than the 4g63's! And maybe soon might be a cheap strocker availbe for all the 4g32 folk.

Turbo oil feed on a g32b comes from the OFH not the head.

Your turbo is a td04-13g. it's chra is the same as the td04-9b that comes stock on the g32b engine, with the aforementioned 3 bolt exhaust manifold flange. I know because u put a 13g on my car. (note td04 Not td04h/tdo4hl)

What else do you need to know?

Do you have a pick of where on the OFH? Yea I noticed the CHRA is the same as the turbine wheel looks identical as well. Honestly I had no issues with keepig the CSM turbo as is if it wasn't hard to find something to make a j-pipe for with the unique output port it has.
What's your all opinion on Cam for the motor? Should I find a 4g32bT Cam, or keep the standard g37 cam? Any thoughts on the MCA Jet valve head? I also have one of these Cyclone heads been thinking about using. Also what pressure do the waste gate actuators open up at?

Well, maybe the base model engine. The Turbo and LX models have the 4g61 which is just a destroked/debored 4g63...

I hear yah on the water pipe. If the correct parts are available it is far easier to use OE parts than it is to fabricate.

Using the fitting on the thermostat housing for the throttle body coolant passage is a good idea.

Sorry, I meant the 4G32's are practically the same. Yea there is a guy on DSMTalk that converted his 4g37 to a 4g61.

Yea I posted lookig for a water pipe, lets see what happens. What do you feel about these other questions?

That 4g37 cyclone head you have is very similar to the g32b mca jet valved head. These two have a similar combustion chamber, and I believe, the same adjustable solid tappets. The non jet valve 4g37 head has hydraulic lifters. You could only swap the cam with the corresponding jet valved heads. I've say get the cams spec out to see if there is any difference.

Also, I believe the cyclone 4g37 head comes with a different intake manifold too, with provisions for the jet valves.

I'll try to get you a picture of my engine bay and the OFH.

Yes, I have all the required stuff to run the Cyclone head on the 4G37, good thing I did get the matching manifold that has the Jet Valve intake runner. Yes it has the manual tappet lifters as well. So whats your oppinion on it? You think the Jet valve makes any difference? In automotive history there have been several other attempts at 3 valve heads with the extra intake smaller to creat un-even pressures to create the "Cyclone" in the chamber. Actually by my suprise, my Maserati uses this technology and they claimed it made big difference over 2 valve head. Now to measure the cam would be a good idea. I will have that checked out soon hopefully. My intentions were to run the Cyclone head right off hand, however if I have to replace a headgasket several days from now. That is when I'll do it. Yea I could really use any and all engine pics! Also, you all g32 guys can benefit from alot of the 1.8 guys for performance parts. Such as the Unorthodox Under Drive Pulley and a shaved 4g63 cam gear.

Could use a down pipe pic as well! Do the exhaust systems run simular to a DSM?

I'm in the middle of an mpi swap.

Here is under the car. I have a line coming off that oil feed banjo bolt for an oil pressure sender. Thats why it looks funny.

Thanks, I'll have to view the pics from home. However if you need MPI questions or parts hit me up! Lot's of 4G37's around here in the salvage yards. I'm trying to get a down pipe fabbed up asap. Thanks for your help man. :drinkers:
