As the idle goes up and down look at the TB and linkage. The linkage may be binding, make sure there is slack in it.

My car did this same thing after a 45 minute highway drive just last week. I looked at the linkage and it looked like it may be binding or too tight. I shut if off but it was fine after than and has been since.

I think that it could be any of three things, a tight linkage, a going or gone engine coolant temp sensor, (although that usually make starting the car difficult), and a going ECU.

I'm speculating.

I took at close look at it, and there is a small cylinder (I think electrical) that when the idle slows down and the throttle closes, there is a tab that touches the cylinder, and then the cylinder pushes the throttle back open, and it keeps cycling. There is an idle adjusting screw right beside it, which I played with, but there is also an adjusting screw on the throttle arm that I am not sure what it does. i will check the coolant though, as a friend of mine had a similar problem with a Corolla and it was his cooling system with air in it, and the pump was cavitating.

Your timing should be at 5 BTDC. That might help you get it idling better.

if your idle is hunting, you need to do your tps/isc reset. Thats always the cause. Pretty simple precodure.
