May sound stupid but I've seen it happen, make sure the ebrake handle is down. :oops:

^ Both responses have held me up before. Nut behind the cover and E-Brake off.

Then prepare to get greasy and plan to regrease the bearings with a nice tub of grease. Have you ever repacked a bearing, and do you have some varsol handy?

ok cuz i just thought the drum would slide off when i took the rim off .o well guess not....


and no ive never repacked a bearing and i dont have the other thing =\

Get yourself a slider hammer, it makes it much easier to remove that sucker!

Make sure you grease the bearing, otherwise it will seize and you'll end up with this mess!!!!!

I had to replace the ENTIRE rear axle. The bearing seized, froze the nut and ruined the spindle, all while I was towing. It happened in the middle of the night in the middle of IOWA. The only reason I saw it was because the steer belts from the tire were throwing sparks.

However, you can't just replace the spindle on this Colt ('82), you have to replace the whole axle. Lucky, I have spare parts car(s), LOL
