Hey Everyone,

So I was driving around the other day, shifted from first to second and nothing happened. The lever was in the correct position but 2nd gear didnt grab. After taking it apart, I saw that I snapped part of the shifter assembly that "holds" the lever down. Now, the only way to shift gears is to press down while shifting. The question I have is: Where can I get a replacement?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reply, it is an '88. Any tips on where I could locate one of those? Is there a supplier or would I have better luck at a junk yard?

I don't know about that far south, but up here in the great white north, there is a pile of colts in the pick n' pull with shifters for about $6...

We are having the same problem. It looks like the bolt that holds the lever is broken.... Anyone else fix this problem?

a 4gen CSM shifter base will bolt in but the shifter arm will sit at a funny angle [edit] too far forward[/edit]. you'll have to adjust/shorten/cut/tap threads on one of the shifter cable ends.

What I did was cut off the part of the turn buckle that connects to the shifter arm and tap more thread all the way to the end of this piece. This enables you to shorten the length of the cable to compensate for the different angle of the 4gen shifter arm.

or

visit a welder and get your fixed

or

pay for shipping and I will send you my old 88 turbo shifter

found the problem. there is a bolt that goes into the shift lever, the bolt was very lose and wouldn't stay in, so the shifter was not staying in place. Replaced bolt.. good to go!
