Has been a while...have been monitoring though...
Had my trans rebuilt (something inside broken, bolt holding 5th broken)
changed bearings everything else ok.
Finally got 5th gear but intermittently 3rd gear will neutralize!
Shifter still in 3rd though, I will release gas pedal and 3rd will
engage again.
Read a bulletin on Alldata re m/t jumps out of 3rd or 4th for 85 & 86
mirage. it says the condition may be caused by water in the select switch
on the trans axle. the switch can cause an intermittent short circuit
causing the select control valve and the servo to attemp a "shift" thus
trans to jump out of gear.
Seems the same symptons on my car. So I purchased the select switch (md704832). It took a while cause parts dept had to find the new reference part no .
We also checked the old select switch and it does not give any pulse or
signal so we assumed it was dead.
Now the new switch is in, it does not do it as much but will still do it once
in a while. Tried turning the switch off and the car lost 5th gear.
Person who did tranny has been nice enough that he hasn't given the car
to me yet. He has also been researching and banging his head.

Any suggestions out there?!

what car/engine/trans?

I read of these vac actuated tranny problems too much - why don't you swap in a KM201 or KM206?

From Pick N Pull I brought home a KM206 for less than $100.

I agree with the never ending problems with the vacume actuator. The 84 used a manual cable actuator on the same transmission. I am not convinced the vacume actuated high range would cause 3rd gear to pop out and in. There is no nuetral betweem high and low. Is the rod /brace that runs parrellel to the shifter rod in place ? If the engine moves around under load and the shifter isn't tied together directly to the drivtrain by that rod it's going to pull back and forth on the shift rod. Greg

Its an 86 mirage turbo. I have replaced all the mounts (eng & trans). I will investigate
on the rod/brace for the shifter rod.
