Ok I went back out to look at it. The pin was in place, under a shield on the shaft the slides over the selecter piston.
If I leave the actuator in the overdrive position and do not reconnect the vacuum lines I get no gears. Reconnect the vacuum lines and I have 4 regular gears and reverse.
Try to shift into overdrive and I get a light vibrating or grinding and a neutral condition. It appears that I am not producing vacuum at the overdrive end? Or could my actuator blatter be bad (blowing and sucking moves the actuator from both lines)?
My reverse light works so that switch should be good.

If a vacuum diaphragm is used on either side, you need to find out what is creating the switching for vacuum to be applied to each diaphragm.. Once you know that, you can use a hand vacuum pump to pull the diaphragms in the correct direct (don't apply more than engine vacuum of like 10-18" or so, just in case.
This should tell you if the diaphragms are good or if they bleed down too quick or don't hold any vacuum at all.
Does that make sense ?

It does make sense. I wish I could afford more time on the thing and could sort this thing out. I enjoy driving it a ton.
