I picked this beauty up for $650 CND, needs a clutch really soon and some front struts. Body is fine, interior is pretty good, 250K kms and still running well. A pretty good deal I think. I hope to keep it as a daily driver.

After the clutch and struts I want to add a FMIC and a boost controller for more power. Time will tell how far I go (still looking for 3g sedan).
Some Pics. 1 2 345

Awesome find. Looks just like my '88 Dodge Colt Premier.

Really nice!! Interesting ID plate, was it one of them that was manufactured in Thailand?

I've notices some blue smoke :( .

I didn't get a owners manual with this Vista. Can someone tell me what weight of oil to use. Or, can someone recommend an oil weight? Perhaps to mittigate the burning of the oil? There is an almost empty bottle of Lucas oil treatment in the trunk.

TIA

Well, I guess you get what you pay for :-? . Try 20w-50w, might keep oil consumption down, but will probably be too heavy for your frigid winters unless the block heater is used. Or tear it down and install new rings and valve seals. Look on the bright side, at least you westerners can get older rust free cars, our humid climate wreaks havoc on metal. :x

Thanks, I found that the list on the sun visor. The oil burning is not as bad as I first thought.

Anyhow, I've done a leak down test with less than impressive results. cylinders 1,3, and 4 leak through the valve guides as I observed air coming out of the oil filler cap. Cylinder 2 had air coming out of the oil dip stick -> rings. All where between 15 and 25% loss. It was my first time doing a leak down test.

I spent 5 hours at the local wreckers last weekend removing an engine which I later found out to be blown  . That was a learning experience. I did manage to leave with a fairly newer set of struts though :drinkers:

I plan on checking out another engine at the same wreckers soon.

Yup that was me, LOL. I pick up the exhaust manifold you graciouly left ready to go on Friday. I went back yesterday and got that other long block with the Intake side.

I will do another leak down on this engine this week.

On a second note, you mentioned that the clutch was very worn on that blown engine; I also got the clutch with the long block and wanted to know how I can visually tell if it is any good?

Thanks

to check condition, i check two things. the pressure plate fingers should be close to flat with the clutch installed.the disc should have the radial cuts, as they allow the clutch to release(vacuum)
i had a cheap rebuilt disc without the cuts, i couldn't shift above 4500 rpm.

Just wanted to update the thread with some pic, and ask some questions.

Here are the old front struts I replaced. Notice how the top hole is oblong, the one I picked up at the wreckers weren't and we had to use a caster bolt. Steering is satisfactory 8) .

Here are some pitures of the engine I picked up. It spins well enough and it looks like there is hardly any ridge on the cylinders.

I also pulled the IC, piping, and BOV off a 626 mazda. The IC looks kind of beat up, should I try and use it or the BOV?

Lastly some pictures of the body. Its pretty straight and I believe the rust may be manageable. The trunk doesn't sit down on the one side and leaks water like crazy when I wash it, suggestions?

I just wanted to get some opions. I'm thinking of a stock rebuild plus bolt ons(IC, boost controller). Are there any other obvious items I should get/upgrade when rebuilding the g32b?

TIA. :drinkers:
