We all know that when we do the swap, our factory wagons use a distributor, thus the tach doesn't work once we do a swap. (only exception is maybe with a 90 harness)

After trying to hunt different junkyards to look for a 1990 Talon "tacho Interface J602" I gave up and decided to build my own.

You will need following:

47K resistor
1K resistor
2x 1N4004 diode
1x 1N4744A Zener diode

Follow the crappy hand drawn circuit diagram below.

Follow following link to where to hook onto your coil.

http://www.lilevo.com/turbo/tach/body_tach.html

Connect directly the "tach" on that circuit to your tach (white wire on C67 plug on the passenger footwell, or directly behind the tach (sorry don't have the pin right now)

This is all I needed to make my tach work, and is exact replica of the factory Tach interface. I didn't need any filters to make it work.

awesome. very nice post. I was struggling with a path to get my tach working when I do my swap.

This is archive type material, just saying!

Hmm, wonder if this will work with the 4g (93-96) Mirage too? The manual 1.8L LS cars came with a tach but once you swap a 4g63 in nobody has been able to get the tach to work. However a evo 1-3 cluster bolts right in and the tach works fine. Wonder if that's the difference between the two, just a handful of resistors.

If your car originally used a distributor and had a tach, and now you use a 91+ Talon harness. I believe this would work for you.

sorry for bringing up an old thread.

but the link to the circuit drawing is dead.

can it be re-posted please?

or send me an email with the drawing?

thanks in advance.

hopefully he will rehost somewhere. if not if you search "how to tach adapter" there are quite a few simple ones and as many complex ones to try. this is closest I found that I would try first.

Much appreciated that you are keeping this thread alive with the proper pictures.

Lots of people run into this issue.
