Could also be a fuse, Ive replaced 2 alternators to find the fuse was the issue

So I'm at a stop light and my battery, radiator, brake and a/t temp light in the dash all went on. It's not overheating, it's running great but now I'm worried. Anyone have this happen before or know the cause off hand? I disconnected the battery but nothing changed but my stereo presets... |

Pop the multimeter leads onto the positive end of the battery output terminal (large cable side) and the alternator shell or a body ground. See if you get less than 13.2V. Standing voltage for a battery is 12.6 and should be charged at a minimum of just over ~13V to maintain itself. Anything less than that, or less than 12.6 and you are running strictly off the battery alone, with no charge effect. Usually the brushes wear out if this comes and goes, as the tension is rather weak once they wear right down and the old spring can't maintain proper contact anymore. If you get proper charging voltage at the battery positive terminal, recheck at the positive terminal at the battery across to the negative terminal. Want to rule out a loose cable/fried cable, etc. Check the nut at the positive cable output fitting at the alternator for tightness also, along with the battery terminals. |

12.4v while running so I guess I need to check some cables this evening and then replace alternator if need be. Thanks for your help Flying Eagle! |

P.S. I hope alternator bolts are easier to remove on the Vista chassis's. CSM's with the 4g63 installed in the factory front position, need the engine block tilted downward to clear the bolt past the frame. Then you re-install the bolt from the passenger to driver side, as it goes back in. This means it sneaks out just behind the exhaust next time. I was on my way to the dyno one day and alt went. I had to go back in the Dynasty to see our local HP kings do their thing. |

I really really hope not! It's way to cold out for nonsense like that. Hopefully tomorrow I can diagnose things. Since I'm sitting in the ER with my wife right now today was a bust. Thankfully she is ok and tomorrow is another day above ground...hopefully! |

Alternator was the culprit but dang was it an easy job. R&Red in under 30 mins! Thanks again for the knowledge and replies. |

Quite! There is even a hole cut out in the wheel well plastics to pull the bottom bolt out. |

Do you still have the heatshields on your exhaust? If not, put them on or wrap the exhaust. The heat from it easily causes the voltage regulator to melt, sag and break. |

^^^ Even alternators on non-turbo engines suffer the loss of the regulator this way. |
