I have used a 3071 before (kit on right) bolted to bottom of manifold. no spacer is needed. the biggest clearance issue will be the water pipe. but for this setup I can rotate housing to any angle needed to clear pipe. then build downpipe around that angle. this setup will be slick.

my 3071 experience has me a bit worried. as that turbo was a good bit laggier than the 6h-20g it replaced. it was a great pump gas setup due to lack of back-pressure. would have been awesome on a stroker though. I ran it on evo 8 piston setup.

new mod arrived today. got the idea from EGLTAWLN on tuners. I pirated a couple of pics of his car. to me its one of the few bumper swaps that just belongs. its a 97-2001 impreza. cheap at u-pull yard. I couldnt wait so i bought new off rock auto. was 210 shipped with the lights.

I remember him putting up those pics. I don t feel it really fits the colt hatches but on the wagons its amazing how well it matches the overall car. Its going to look great i cant wait to see your install :supz:

picked up some new Defi gauges for less than 100 each. couldnt pass that up. these are my favorite gauges. scored some more spare EFR turbos on the cheap. 250/500/950. 6758/6758/7163. one turbo came with speed sensor. and the 7163 has two dyno pulls on it and can almost pass for new. havent even seen another used one for sale. the inlet flange is slightly different. so it would be a little work to get it swapped in my kit I am building. I dont think I will need or want the extra power. so its on standby. since I got a speed sensor I looked around at any gauges available. could only find two. the garret gauge happens to match quite well the look of these defi gauges. so I think I will spring for that. these turbos are extra sensitive to over spinning. so this could pay for itself.

picked up some Tomei poncams 260. I think these will be hot in this setup. I was looking for a mild cam that didnt sacrifice idle quality and worked well with stock/smallish turbos. I want the car to idle low and smooth, like stock. feedback is very positive. they spool turbo faster than stock cams (great for getting up on converter) have enormous midrange, pull hard to 7500 rpm, and dont need upgraded springs. cant find single user on DSM forums so I will be the guinea pig

Damn, those are insane deals on those EFR's! I also had no idea Tomei made cams for the early 4G63's, I figured it was just later EVO's only. What are the exact specs on them?

they made 260 270 and 280 cams. I honestly never looked into them myself. when these popped up for sale I started reading up on them and they sounded just perfect for this setup. they are in between a typical 264 and 272 cam. I am glad I found them. I have used fp1 fp2 fp3 hks264 hks272 crower stage 2 and 3 and jun264 cams. the mildest of those with good idle is the fp1 cams. but when they were swapped in my evo1 for the stock cams it gained barely anything. maybe 10hp above 6500. they otherwise felt like the stock evo cams. these poncams are upgrade profile from the evo1 cams, which are already slightly more aggressive than the dsm stock cam.

I have the Comp 101200's in my car, which are basically FP2's, and it idles like stock. It's actually a bit disappointing, I'd like some lope. Haha

I think thats the place I bought from. I havent swapped yet. been too sick lately to take on any big projects. sucks. cant wait to drive this car is turbo form.

started my bumper swap today. this swap is not for the weak hearted. its a good bit of work to make it fit good. but its the type of stuff i love. first job was replacing the right front fender. found a white fender and u-pull yard shortly after getting the car. but didnt want to pull the bumper just to install it. then i got side tracked and modified my grill . to me the multiple slats looked dated and it was really bothering me. I had some ides on how to improve the look and improve the flow at same time. this is what i came up with today. may change it later but I think it looks pretty good. i also think the car looks pretty good with the bumper in black. cant wait to get back out there tomorrow and gets the bumper fitting nice. fun fun fun.

Making room for intercooler I did some work trimming backside of bumper. tin snip the large pieces off. then trim to size with 4" sander. then finish edges with edge of knife. still deciding what to do with tag bracket. really liking this bumper. stock bumper complete weighs 38.5 lbs. this cover weigh just 8 lbs. my intercooler weighs 15.5. so weight savings removing core and adding I/C saves 15lbs.

Any more pics of the bumper mod in daylight? And what it took to get it to fit well? Definitely want to do this to my van! How'd your suspension end up working out all together and what dimensions are your wheels and offset? I'm looking for upgraded wheels as well at the moment. My car is very stiff in the rear but I'm suspecting this has more to do with the spring rate than the EVO 8/9 shocks I'm running. Any input is appreciated!

I will take better pics of bumper as i progress. Trimming it to look good was fun. The hard part and not so fun part is making mounts so its well supported and easy to get on/off. one good thing mount in front of tire is slotted and works perfectly. but there is little else to attach it too in the front. the plastic trim around headlights is too flimsy to use for mount points. this will end up being quite the time consuming project. but worth it for the extra I/C room. looks like there is gonna be plenty of room for a fan in front of condenser which is huge for me. really struggled to get that done on my evo1. this car has more room.

the suspension is quite nice. handle really nice. a tad firm on hitting reflectors. otherwise very smooth with minimal body sway.
16x7 42offset
195/55/16 general rt 43 (fabulous tires. best I have ever used hands down)
1g bilstien front struts. acura 2006 RSX springs (base model)
rear as 3/4 cut from FWD springs. KYB stock replacement shocks. (the bilstiens failed)
